Academic Instruction
With
faculty affiliated with both the College
of Veterinary Medicine and
the D.B. Warnell School
of Forestry and Natural
Resources, SCWDS offers M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in various disciplines such as Infectious Diseases, Veterinary
Pathology, or Wildlife Ecology and Management. Senior
personnel with faculty status teach
courses in wildlife disease for undergraduate, graduate, and veterinary
students. Graduate level courses in
wildlife diseases have been
offered by SCWDS staff each summer since 1963.
SCWDS
also offers externships for any
junior or senior veterinary student in
good academic standing from an accredited college of veterinary
medicine.
For additional information, see our
EDUCATION
section.
Training and
Informational Services
Through a cooperative agreement with the
Animal and Plant
Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of USDA, SCWDS conducts training
workshops
for wildlife biologists and veterinary medical officers to prepare them
to
respond to the possible introduction of foreign and emerging animal
disease
problems.
Upon request, arrangements can
be made for similar training for state wildlife personnel.
SCWDS is a vital source of wildlife health
information for state and federal agencies and private organizations
and serves
as an advisor when questions arise regarding health issues.
